Chapter 413 - 285: I’m Back, and I’ll Go with You
Chapter 413 - 285: I’m Back, and I’ll Go with You
During Ze Sheng’s assault on the Royal City, she was captured by some men in black who planned to use her as leverage against him.
What happened in between was a blur, as if that part of her memory had been forcibly obscured by a thick fog. Fortunately, the final outcome was that Ze Sheng successfully rescued her.
’Logically, the two of them should have lived happily ever after, right?’
But things were far from that simple.
Afterward, An Jin discovered that her memories from that period were completely fragmented. The part that should have been her "happy life thereafter" was a total blank.
An Jin’s heart filled with unease. When she finally recovered another frame of her memory, it was of her forming an Ice Blade in her hand and plunging it straight into the man’s chest.
His face was filled with disbelief. She was the only person for whom he would willingly lower his full-body Energy shield, and the only one who could truly hurt him.
’So... that old scar piercing through Ze Sheng’s chest—I was the one who did that?!’ An Jin felt her heart skip a beat. ’But why would I do something like that?’
She searched all her memories but could never find a motive for her actions. The memories before and after that event were also a complete blank.
After that.
She couldn’t clearly hear what Ze Sheng, his expression pained, said. She only saw him grip the Ice Blade with one hand, blood dripping down his fingers. He staggered back two steps and brutally yanked the Ice Sword from his own chest.
"This stab still wasn’t deep enough..."
She heard him say with a light chuckle. Then, he reversed his grip on the hilt, and the sharp tip, glinting with a cold light, plunged directly into her chest.
Right through the heart.
She died.
An Jin watched the scene unfold—the soul blood in her chest was stripped from her heart, taken by him, and placed into his own body.
From then on, possessing two portions of King Beast Soul Blood, he directly ascended to the King Beast Peak. He became a supreme King Beast who dominated his territory, and his superior Divination abilities made him the undisputed Beast God High Priest.
’This plot twist is completely unexpected. It’s... it’s just absurd!’
’So, I tried to kill Ze Sheng? But failed and got killed instead?’
’But how did our relationship devolve into such a cliché, angsty drama of lovers trying to kill each other?’
However, the long gaps in her memory offered no answers.
...
However, after her physical body died, she discovered her soul hadn’t vanished. Instead, it drifted to another world—the one she originally thought she came from, the 23rd-century Blue Star.
In that world, she learned a great deal of knowledge not recorded in the Beast World. But due to an explosion during an experiment, she returned to this world.
At this turning point, she searched her memories over and over, only to realize that she hadn’t been brought to this world by a system. Rather, a system had just happened to bind with her on her way here.
The Energy that truly guided her to this world... came from Ze Sheng!
’He was the one who brought my soul back to this world?!’
This was what confused An Jin even more.
If their relationship had already fractured to the point of life and death, and if Ze Sheng truly wanted to kill her, had succeeded, and had taken her Energy, then why would he go through so much trouble to bring her soul back?
Besides, judging by his recent behavior, he didn’t seem like someone who hated her to the bone. On the contrary, his cautiousness, the way he treated her like a priceless treasure, and his desire to hide her away from the prying eyes of other males were all too obvious.
Now that her memories were back, she wanted to find a time to confront Ze Sheng alone and uncover the hidden truth.
"Ah Jin?!"
The voice calling out to her was fraught with an anxiety that bordered on tears.
An Jin slowly opened her eyes. The darkness dissipated, and complex, beautiful light and colors once again filled her vision.
The first thing she saw was the Merfolk with reddened eyes. She couldn’t help but twitch the corner of her lips, reaching out to touch his face. Her voice was a little dry and hoarse as she said, "Xi..."
"I’m back."
"...Are you Ah Jin now? Or Wamiya?" Xi blinked, sounding a bit confused.
"Uh." She tapped her lips with a finger as if in thought, then smiled sweetly. "To be precise, I’m both, but also neither. I’m not the Wamiya of the past, nor am I the Ah Jin you first met."
"Ah..."
Xi was even more confused.
In truth, no one could clearly explain reincarnation. Some believed the two were separate individuals, while others thought they were the same person all along, just with different memories.
An Jin remained neutral on the matter. Seeing the confused Little Merfolk before her, she couldn’t resist pinching his cheek. "It’s not just that the Ah Jin of today isn’t the Ah Jin you first met. The Ah Jin of a second ago isn’t the Ah Jin of this very second. Oh, hold on, another second just went by, so now I’m not the me I was a moment ago."
"..."
Xi felt like his brain was short-circuiting. He started counting on his fingers: one second passed, then another.
’By that logic, are there lots and lots of Ah Jins?’
He looked up in a daze and caught the smile the female hadn’t managed to hide in time. He immediately puffed out his cheeks and turned his head away huffily. ’How annoying! Ah Jin is actually teasing a fish like me?!’
"Alright, don’t be mad. I was just teasing you. Didn’t you just swear that it didn’t matter which version of me it was?" She took his hand. His long, slender fingers were cool and smooth like Leng Yu, and the thin webbing between them was pleasant to touch. "People change. They grow and evolve with time. Even I can’t say for sure that the me of today will be the same me tomorrow. So, why think so much about it?"
"I just need to know that I am who I am, alive and real, and that I’m trying to build a happy future. That’s enough."
She pulled him along as they swam out of the palace.
"Ah Jin, are you going back?" Xi asked sulkily. He wanted to keep her in the deep sea, to stay with him and him alone.
"If you really hid me in the deep sea, Ling Hong would probably risk drowning to fight you to the death," she chuckled. "Take me back. There are still some things I need to finish..."
Xi sent a message, arranging for a meeting on a beach in three days.
Ling Hong and Ze Sheng both came, of course. Their expressions differed as they stared at the calm beach, filled with anticipation, hesitation, and speculation...
The sea breeze stirred the waves.
Two figures walked onto the beach, leaving a trail of wet footprints on the soft, golden sand. The larger one followed closely behind the smaller one.
Ling Hong gazed at the female’s familiar face, his emotions churning. He couldn’t help but jog forward a couple of steps. At the same time, the female threw herself into his arms and snuggled against him. "You’ve been waiting long. Sorry. I—I’m back..."
He let out the softest "mhm," the corners of his eyes reddening slightly. He was at a loss for words.
But then she let him go, blinked, and said in an apologetic tone, "I’m sorry for making you wait so long, but I can’t go with you right now..." After saying that, she walked toward the other person.
