Chapter 403: They Suspect Thea Shaw
Chapter 403: They Suspect Thea Shaw
"Miss Shaw, I’m sorry to disturb you at home. We’re here for a routine investigation."
It was a man and a woman, two police officers who seemed to specialize in this type of case. They were dressed sharply and had a courteous demeanor.
They presented a warrant to collect evidence.
Thea Shaw had just finished washing up, smiling gently without a hint of panic: "I understand."
She invited the two officers to sit down and instructed a servant to make tea for them.
The two officers couldn’t help but wonder, given Thea Shaw’s gracious demeanor and ethereal aura, why she engaged in an occupation akin to fraud?
Setting aside their surprise, the officers began the formal investigation.
"Miss Shaw, do you know a Miss Regina Shelby?"
The information about Regina Shelby’s death had already been exposed by the media. If the police hadn’t reacted quickly, photos of the scene might have been released.
They received the message and rushed to the scene, only to find Regina Shelby’s body already discovered by the swarm of media, leaving them unable to keep it under wraps.
Therefore, they assumed Thea Shaw was already aware of Regina Shelby’s death, but since this was an investigation, they couldn’t state it outright.
They presented a photo of Regina Shelby, and Thea Shaw merely glanced at it before nodding: "I know her; she was one of my clients."
As expected, the police continued down the line of questioning regarding clients: "May I ask, what industry are you in?"
Thea Shaw calmly replied: "Fortune-telling, basically what you see as fraudulent superstition."
Police: "..."
Thea Shaw had self-disclosed so bluntly, leaving the two officers at a loss, but what mattered was the investigation, so they didn’t dwell on it and asked directly: "You mentioned Regina Shelby was your client. May I ask what transaction she conducted with you?"
"She came to me for fortune-telling."
Thea Shaw understood why she was being questioned.
The fact that she had performed fortune-telling for Regina Shelby had been leaked, something that could only have been done by the man in the room on that day.
Normally, if she conducted fortune-telling, as long as Regina Shelby didn’t say anything, the police wouldn’t investigate so thoroughly.
Thus, someone was intentionally trying to implicate her.
She had given Regina Shelby directions that were too explicit, and now that Regina Shelby was dead, her words became the prime suspect.
"Could you please tell us what you said to Regina Shelby at the time?"
Thea Shaw took out her phone: "Listen for yourselves."
As a fortune-teller, Thea Shaw knew deeply that there were traps hidden in certain areas.
In ancient times, technology was as it was, but in the modern era, it’s different.
Therefore, she recorded every fortune-telling session, treating it as a work document. If there was no issue, she certainly wouldn’t disclose it.
The officers hadn’t expected her to have recordings, which turned out to be an unexpected clue.
The recording was complete, starting from Thea Shaw’s footsteps at the entrance and covering all subsequent dialogue.
Listening to it, the officers were stunned by the information revealed within.
Just the details about the benefactor made them realize this wasn’t a simple murder case.
Regina Shelby was clearly sabotaged by someone.
The matter involved too many elements, and the police quickly caught on, but they had to continue questioning.
Based solely on this dialogue, it was sufficient to determine Thea Shaw was the most likely person to take action.
Because she—had told Regina Shelby to flee, and so she might know where Regina Shelby fled to.
The only issue was her motive.
